Daniel Mark Bird is an industrial artist working primarily with steel and oak to create contemporary sculpture for gardens and outdoor spaces.
His work explores form, balance and movement. He is particularly interested in the contrast between the strength and weight of steel and the sense of lightness, rhythm and fluidity that can be created through it.
Nature is a continual source of inspiration. Some pieces take their direction from recognisable organic forms, while others are more abstract, responding to the shapes, textures and movement found within the landscape.
With almost 30 years of experience in construction and fabricating, Daniel has developed a strong, instinctive understanding of materials and how they behave. This allows each piece to evolve through the making process, balancing artistic expression with the technical knowledge required to create work on a larger scale. Based near Brecon in Wales, with a second base in Kent, Daniel Mark Bird undertakes commissions across the UK.
Every sculpture is individually designed and made by hand. Whether created as a standalone piece or in response to a particular setting, the intention is always to produce work that feels connected to its surroundings and changes with the light, weather and seasons.
